Blue Jays Leo Jimenez Back On Bench Wednesday

Jays' Leo Jimenez back on bench Wednesday

Blue Jays' Leo Jimenez expected to miss six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury

After starting the season on the injured list, Blue Jays outfielder Leo Jimenez was activated on Monday. But he is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury suffered in Tuesday night's game against the Boston Red Sox, according to manager Charlie Montoyo.

Jimenez was injured running the bases in the seventh inning of Tuesday's game. He was initially diagnosed with a right hamstring strain, and an MRI on Wednesday confirmed the severity of the injury.

Jimenez was hitting .286 with two home runs and five RBIs in 11 games this season

The 27-year-old Jimenez was acquired by the Blue Jays in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December. He was expected to be a key part of Toronto's offense this season, but his injury is a major blow to the team.

With Jimenez on the IL, the Blue Jays will likely give more playing time to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Randal Grichuk in the outfield. The team could also call up a player from Triple-A Buffalo to fill Jimenez's roster spot.
