The New York Knicks Are on the Cusp of a Historic Upset
Brunson Leads Knicks to 3-1 Lead Over 76ers
Embiid's 50-Point Outburst Not Enough as Knicks Take Control
The New York Knicks are on the cusp of a historic upset after taking a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers in their first-round playoff series. Jalen Brunson led the way for the Knicks in Game 4, scoring a career playoff-high 47 points. Joel Embiid, who became the third player to ever score 50 points against the Knicks in the postseason, led the 76ers with 31 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Knicks from taking a commanding lead in the series.
The Knicks took a 2-0 lead in the series after winning the first two games at home. The 76ers bounced back to win Game 3 in Philadelphia, but the Knicks have now won two straight games to put themselves on the verge of advancing to the second round.
Brunson has been a revelation for the Knicks in the playoffs. The 25-year-old guard is averaging 29.3 points per game in the series, and he has led the Knicks in scoring in each of their three wins. Brunson is also shooting 48.8% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range in the playoffs.
Embiid has been a force for the 76ers in the series, but he has not been able to carry the team to victory. The 28-year-old center is averaging 28.8 points per game in the playoffs, but he is shooting just 43.2% from the field.
The 76ers will need to find a way to slow down Brunson and the Knicks' offense if they want to avoid being upset in the first round. Game 5 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night in Philadelphia.
